Who are you?
You are an elite member of your community - no matter what you do, you stand out and rise above the crowd. You will be attending an elite 4-year accredited university in Fall 2012. You are smart, resourceful and have an interest in entrepreneurship. Your skill set fits in one of two tracks: engineering or business.
What will you be doing?
A 10-week fellowship program for bright young minds interested in startups. There are 3 main aspects:

Fellows will be matched with a high-potential startup for the summer. This will be the Fellow's "home base" and the Fellow will spend most of their time there. Fear not, the Fellow and startup will both be involved in the matching process, which will take place well before the summer begins. Furthermore, startups have to apply to Startup Roots as well so you are sure to be in good hands. The startup will have a "summer project" for the Fellow, which will occupy at least 50% of the intern's time on the job. - Activities.
A weekly speaker series will feature industry executives (CEO's, Venture Capitalists) talking on a variety of topics, ranging from the history of startups to how to raise money for a company. Furthermore, there will be a variety of weekend and weeknight activities sprinkled throughout the summer. We'll ensure you have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible summer in the Bay Area and learn about the vibrant startup community. - Community.
Startups are all about networking, and we'll give you plenty of chances to do that. You'll connect and bond with your cohort of Fellows while also working alongside some of the most talented and most renowned startup entrepreneurs.
Where is the StartupRoots program held?
All internships are located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Fellows will be expected to stay here for the summer. If a Fellow is not local or cannot afford the trip / room / board, Startup Roots companies may provide assistance. Students are encouraged to apply regardless of the logistics of the internship. That said, the goal is to learn and not to earn this summer.
When does StartupRoots 2012 start?
June 2012 to August 2012. Exact dates will vary based on the school schedule of the students. The most common dates are June 7 to August 13.
Why join StartupRoots?
StartupRoots offers students a truly unparalleled experience. By placing Fellows in young startups, they get to experience product development from its earliest stages. This type of exposure can't be obtained from larger corporations, and gives budding entrepreneurs the chance to compare themselves with other startups. The weekly speaker series also allows Fellows to hear industry executives discuss how to succeed with startups.
Will this be paid?
Our goal is to make this cost-neutral for the Fellows. We will not mandate that startups pay Fellows, but some startups may decide to provide compensation.
